A Night on the Water
Sleeping among the karsts is the whole point. Day trips miss the quiet.
North
Slow days among karst islands, with the right vessel, route and pace selected for you.
More than a thousand limestone islands and islets, and a day trip sees only the busiest corner of them. Staying the night is what separates a good Ha Long from a disappointing one.
Boats leave around midday and return mid-morning, so a single night on the bay costs you very little time. The quieter anchorages, the kayaking and the light at either end of the day all depend on being out there when the day boats are not.

Layered neighbourhoods, quiet courtyards and a food culture best discovered with a local.

Paddle into hidden bays the larger boats cannot enter.

Limestone chambers hollowed out over millions of years.

Tai chi optional. The light at six in the morning is not.
When to travel
Warming up, but sea fog is common and can hide the karsts for days at a time.
Warmest water and the best swimming, but also typhoon season — the harbour authority suspends departures in storms.
The most reliable cruising weather of the year: clear air, calm sea, comfortable temperatures.
Cool and often hazy. Cabins are quieter and cheaper, but the light is flat and swimming unlikely.

Meaningful journeys are built on respect. Small gestures
help support communities and protect the places we love.
One night suits most itineraries. Two nights gets you into Lan Ha and Bai Tu Long, where there are far fewer boats.
Most journeys drive from Hanoi, two and a half to three hours on the expressway. Van Don airport sits much closer to the bay but has far fewer flights, so it is worth using only when the schedule happens to suit you.
The main routes are. Choosing a smaller boat and a quieter anchorage changes the experience completely, and that is the choice we make for you.
Yes, and it is spectacular, but it is weather-dependent and priced separately. Ask and we will include it as an option.
