My Khe and the Coast
A long city beach that is genuinely good, not merely convenient.
Central
A practical coastal base connecting contemporary city life, beaches and nearby heritage.
Most journeys through central Vietnam arrive and leave through Da Nang. It is also a genuinely good stop in its own right: a long city beach, a mountain peninsula and the best coastal driving in the country.
A night here works well at either end of a Hoi An stay, particularly if you want the beach without the Ancient Town crowds.

Craft, cuisine and lantern-lit streets, balanced with restorative time by the coast.

A long city beach that is genuinely good, not merely convenient.

Five limestone hills full of caves, shrines and stone carvers.

The peninsula, the pass, and the finest coastal driving in Vietnam.

Da Nang takes its bridge lighting seriously. Worth one evening.
When to travel
Warm, dry and calm — the beach is at its best and the coast road over Hai Van is clear.
Hot and bright, with the sea flat enough to swim all day. The peak months on My Khe.
Rain and tropical storms. The sea turns rough and the Hai Van pass can close in heavy weather.
Cooler and wetter. Good for the Marble Mountains and the food, less so for the coast.
