A Region of Many Layers

Central Vietnam is where dynastic history, rivers and lantern-lit streets meet a long coastline and limestone mountains.

From the imperial citadel of Hue to the merchant houses of Hoi An, the easy gateway of Da Nang and the caves of Phong Nha, this is a region that rewards curiosity and a little patience with the weather.

Hot Summer

May – Aug

Very hot and mostly dry, with excellent beach weather. Plan the middle of the day indoors or in the water.

Rainy Season

Sep – Nov

The wettest months in central Vietnam: heavy rain, tropical storms and occasional flooding in Hoi An. Worth planning around.

Our Approach to Thoughtful Travel

Planning Your Central Vietnam Journey

How many days should I allow?

Five to seven for Hue, Hoi An and the coast. Ten if you want Phong Nha as well.

What is the best base for Hoi An?

The Ancient Town for character, An Bang or Cua Dai for the beach. Both are a short ride from the other.

Is Central Vietnam suitable for families?

Very. Short distances, good beaches, and enough to do in Hoi An that nobody spends the day in a car.

When should we avoid it?

September to November is the rainy season, with tropical storms and occasional flooding in Hoi An. It is not unmanageable, but we will tell you before you book.
