The Far North, at Its Own Speed

Ha Giang, Cao Bang and Ba Be sit a long way from the usual route, and the roads between them are the point rather than the price. Nine days gives you time to stop when the view asks you to, and to spend real time in places most itineraries drive straight past.

Travel at a pace that suits you, with handpicked experiences that go beyond the guidebook—so you can see more, feel more, and travel with meaning.

What Makes This Journey Special

The Ma Pi Leng Pass

Markets That Are Not For You

Sunday markets where the trading is real and visitors are incidental.

Ban Gioc

A waterfall on the Chinese border that most Vietnam itineraries never reach.

Ba Be by Boat

A lake fringed by forest, and a long slow afternoon out on it.

Ways to Personalize

Add Walking Days

Trade road time for time on foot between villages.

Time It With a Market

The best markets run weekly. We can build the route around one.

Choose Your Comfort Level

Homestays where they are the better experience, hotels where they are not.

Add Ha Long or Hanoi

Finish with something gentler before you fly home.

Mountain weather can change quickly. Current conditions and route suitability are reviewed for your dates.

Before You Plan

How hard are the driving days?

Honestly: several are long, and the roads are mountain roads. That is the trade for reaching places this quiet. We break the longest days with proper stops.

Is accommodation basic up here?

In parts, yes. Ha Giang and Ba Be are homestay and guesthouse country. Rose will tell you plainly which nights are simple and which are not.

What is the best time of year?

September and October for the rice harvest, March and April for the blossom. We avoid the heaviest rains, which can close mountain roads.

Can this be done in fewer days?

It can be compressed, but the drives are what suffer. If you have less time, a shorter loop from Ha Giang works better than rushing the whole route.
